Vogue UK, more known as British Vogue, is published in the UK by Conde Nast Publications Ltd. twelve times a year. Alexandra Shulman is the Editor in Chief (since 1992) and the Creative Director is Robin Derrick. The paper quality and printing is typically British with a strong glossy cover. The British Vogue eye is very eclectic, and as a result, the covers are often unpredictable and always original. Sometimes they are quite risky, taking it one step further than any other version of Vogue could with nudity and quirky models. British Vogue also intermixes the type of photographers they hire, from the extreme (Nick Knight, Terry Richardson) to the simple and elegant (Tom Munro) to the otherworldly (Raymond Meier). Past editors have included Beatrix Miller (1965–1983), Audrey Withers (1940-1960), Anna Wintour (1984-1987), Liz Tilberiz (1987-1991), and Alison Settle (1926–1935). Advertising is above average for British magazines, but below average compared to American and Italian. Vogue UK began publishing 1916 September. An incomplete archive can now be found at British Vogue. |
